At the beginning of this unit, when I was in a group as a group, we came up with three initial research areas: 1. Reality TV. 2. Social Experiments and Pranks. 3. Mockumentaries. However, after a bit of thought, we decided to research into reality tv instead of social experiments and pranks as we were looking forward to making a final product and believed that reality tv would be a much more relevant subject and if we researched into that, we would be more prepared for our desired final product. However, our ideas have changed a lot and therefore, my three main research areas are: 1. Social Media. 2. Fantasy Literature. 3. Mockumentaries and parodies. We all chose to research into social media because it gives us a broad subject to look at and therefore, should we want to, we can change our ideas easily when it comes to making our final product. I decided to research into Fantasy literature as it will help with the context side of the project. Finally, I decided to research into Mockumentaries and parodies. The reason being, we have all had experience of making documentaries and we wanted to put a spin on that idea to make things a bit more comedic as we have not really had the chance to create a comedic project before. We also assigned ourselves roles within our project for our final practical production pieces. They are as follows: - Kira Kilgour: Camera & editor - Ren Mills: Sound and Producer - Megan E. Telford: Director, Script writer and co-editor. Despite the fact we are all doing little pieces of each role sometimes, these are the main roles we have assigned ourselves. I plan to research into my three roles to make sure I know what my role will entail. However, now that I am doing my project alone, I plan to take on the following roles: - Writer & Script Writer - Director - Producer - Editor - Camera Operation (possibly) Therefore, I may need one two people to act as my crew for a day or two. My new idea is briefly explained here. The way I have planned it, my shoot with a crew should last only a day, possibly two as the only 'proper footage I need is the footage of one interview with one of the fans and the other is footage of the investigator character explaining the project she is doing and camera footage of her while she is interviewing people over skype. So, what do I hope to learn from my research?
I want to learn what a mockumentary and parody is and learn about the history of them, while making sure I put a unique spin on my project. I also hope to learn about how social media works and how to use it to promote my work. |
