A script writer is the person who lays out the blue prints of a production. They lay out the base of the production and then the director, producer, cast, crew, etc. will have their creative input. Script writer stend to always be freelance and therefore, you need to be able to find work for yourself. However, in some cases, the original script writer may be replaced by a new one and the original script writer will receive a "story by" credit instead of a "screenplay by" credit. Script writers have a couple of duties. They are: - Research and develop story ideas. - Write screenplays/scripts that contain ideas and characters that will be marketable and have potential to be made into a film (many more screenplays are commissioned than films are made however). They are essentially the only actual duties the script writer needs to carry out. However, you will need several qualities and you will need to know a couple of things to be able to carry out those duties effectively: - Have an understanding of the plot and narrative they are trying to create or adapt. - Understand their audience. - Know how to format a screenplay. - Have a creative imagination. - Be able to bring to life the characters in the story on paper before the director does it on screen. - Be able to write visually, using scene description, directions, sound descriptions and dialogue. - Be very organised. - Be able to work as part of a team and individually. - Be able to work to very strict deadlines. - Be able to handle rejection. Be realistic while writing. Make sure what you write will be feasible to bring to life on screen. Overall, a script writer needs to be able to work collaboratively and alone and to very strict deadlines. You also must be able to cope with rejection as there will be many cases where your work is rejected (as it will be whatever role you decide to do in the industry). The easiest way into any job in the film industry is to start as a runner on a film set or in a production office and you will have to work your way up from there. It will take a lot of time before you reach your desired role but if you have patience, you will be able to do it. However, the best way to become a script writer would probably be to send off scripts to agents, try and get an agent yourself and just send your scripts off to anyone who will read them and hope it gets picked up (the process is very similar when trying to publish a book). One of my roles on my project is script writer. Therefore, I will be researching into one of my favourite writers/script writers and then explain what inspiration I will take away from them. despite the fact my end product for my final project is not a single piece of work. Christopher Nolan:
breakthrough' was with the batman trilogy: Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012). However, after that, Nolan released Inception (2010), which is now one of the most acclaimed films he's ever done. Nolan wrote the entire story behind this film and this is not something he had done before on such a scale. As well as the batman trilogy and Inception (2010), Nolan is also known for Interstellar (2014) and is now working on a film called Dunkirk (2017). Dunkirk (2017) is set to be released in July of this year (2017). I will include links for all the trailers for all of the mentioned films below: - Following (1998) - Batman Begins (2005) - The Dark Knight (2008) - The Dark Knight Rises (2012) - Inception (2010) - Interstellar (2014) - Dunkirk (2017) Nolan's films tend to be action films but have very human stories behind them. Despite the fact my genre for this project is more comedy, i do plan to include some human elements within the scripts I write for our YouTube videos as we do need to appear realistic but as our characters. Therefore, I will be researching into our characters to make sure I write them accurately. Sources:
